A month ago the National Youth League was looking like a watershed for the Twigg boys. All three had been selected for the Eastern Suburbs team, and had shown good form in the preseason. Moreover, the team had performed well, winning all but one of it’s pre-season matches, and losing the last 3-2 (to Hamilton Wanderers) on defensive errors which should have been easy to fix.
But Sam’s ankle was nailed by a lazy tackle from a team-mate in a friendly game after he’d madejust one appearance for the team, and he’s been sidelined since. A week later Denny’s concussion robbed effectively ended his campaign, leaving only Art, who found himself in the #2 striker spot, and getting very little game time (while the encumbents failed to reproduce the pre-season team form).
Art’s starting now, and Sam might be back next week, so it’s just possible I’ll get some decent match footage. But in the meantime, enjoy these highlights from the three key pre-season matches.
